Bose Krishnamachari, co-founder of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, was born in Magattukara Village, Kerala, and gained prominence in the 1990s after graduating from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, during India’s economic liberalization. His art, influenced by India’s changing landscape, features powerful brushstrokes and vibrant hues and is associated with photorealism, engaging with imagery from mass media and digital technology. His diverse works span abstract paintings, figurative drawings, sculpture, photography, multimedia installations, and architecture, reflecting the influence of 1960s pop art. A graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London, Krishnamachari’s artistic journey led him to receive prestigious awards like the Lifetime Fellowship Award from Kerala Lalit Kala Akademi. In 2010, he co-founded the Kochi Biennale Foundation, which brought the Kochi-Muziris Biennale to global prominence. In 2021, he curated “LokameTharavadu,” a major exhibition of 267 artists in Kerala, celebrating artistic resilience post-pandemic. Krishnamachari currently lives and works in Mumbai.
